# What Does it Mean to Thrive?
At MooreCo, we’re big on thriving. Our [Thrive Philosophy](https://blog.moorecoinc.com/6-stages-of-human-development-that-inspire-design-strategies) came about in 2019, to focus on designing spaces that encourage physical, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, social-emotional, and moral development. Even as there were opportunities to help students thrive then, the pandemic made that need even more dire. The past year has taken a toll on students, teachers, and parents in ways that will take time to recover. With the help of [ESSER funds](https://go.moorecoinc.com/resources/8-ways-to-get-the-most-out-of-your-esser-funds) allocated to schools to help with this recovery, our hope is that schools and students will have access to the resources and spaces they need to truly thrive.

But the framing was narrow: we were writing about surviving a crisis, not about what the crisis had revealed.

# The Value of Hands-On Learning in 2021
New research is showing that [2020 has been a difficult year](https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/students-falling-behind/2020/12/06/88d7157a-3665-11eb-8d38-6aea1adb3839_story.html) for our nation’s students. Many are falling behind due to problems with access to remote learning and experts are saying it may cause devastating repercussions. At MooreCo, we’ve been dedicated to following the needs of students and teachers to create ideal learning environments for over 35 years. With that goal in mind, we held our second webinar, [Thrive Together: Creating the Classrooms of Tomorrow](https://go.moorecoinc.com/thrive-together-2020-fall-conference-downloads), in late October. We’ve been continuing to highlight what expert presenters offered in terms of research and solutions for how to keep kids learning through the pandemic and beyond. # Can We Find Togetherness Through Technology?
Although it’s not the same as being together in one room, people have been able to come together through the power of technology in 2020. Due to the pandemic, students are learning remotely, workers are telecommuting, and holiday get-togethers are taking place online to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19. While it has been an adjustment with many challenges to move many of our activities online, there is also great opportunity being presented this year with new achievements in virtual togetherness.
